Legacy giving

'None of us can dance forever.'

Eve Mutso, former Principal Dancer, Scottish Ballet

The act of leaving a legacy is one of the most enduring and impactful forms of philanthropy.

Legacy gifts will enable current and future generations of dancers to successfully retrain in new professions, following their retirement from the stage.

As a Dancers’ Career Development Legacy Pledger you will be treated with the utmost confidentiality and respect. And, in recognition of your generous support, you will receive invitations to our supporters’ events and an annual impact report, allowing you to enjoy an active connection with DCD and the dancers we engage with, during your lifetime.

When dancers are unable to give any more to the world of performance, will you be there to help them find their future path?

'I know from personal experience that the advice, encouragement, and financial support that DCD offers dance artists can literally make all the difference in the world: my life after my performance career would have been very different without it. I am deeply grateful to the organisation for what it offers dance artists at a point in their careers when they are often most anxious and vulnerable. Long may you flourish, for we dancers need you.'

Nelson Fernandez OBE, International Arts Producer (DCD Legacy Pledger)

Every gift matters and will be invested in the future of professional dancers.

We thank you for considering to leave a legacy to Dancers’ Career Development.

Types of Legacy

When leaving a gift in your will, you will have options regarding the type of legacy you would like to provide. This should also be discussed with your solicitor

A residuary gift – This is a percentage of your estate, calculated by the executor of your will. Even 1% could be a transformational gift to dancers, supported through DCD, and still allows 99% of your estate to go to your loved ones and other beneficiaries.

A pecuniary gift – This is a single, cash donation. Unlike Residuary legacies, this does not keep up with inflation, and therefore the value of your gift will diminish from the point of pledging.

A reversionary gift – The charity will not receive any gift until the passing of any other named person(s).

Dancers’ Career Development is a registered charity, so there is no inheritance tax to pay on this donation.

Dancers’ Career Development respects the personal nature of leaving a gift in will.  If you wish to have a private one-to-one initial conversation with us, please contact: development@thedcd.org.uk.

We are unable to provide legal or financial advice regarding your gift, and therefore suggest you discuss this with your solicitor or financial advisor before committing to leaving a donation in your will.
