Proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the work of Dancers’ Career Development and The Rudolph Nureyev Foundation, two charities working to support professional dancers, both on and off-stage.

 

The screening will be followed by a special panel discussion and Q&A about Nureyev’s enduring influence with special guest and star of The Royal Ballet, Steven McRae and the film’s director Jacqui Morris, as well as other special guests from the ballet world to be announced shortly.

 

2018 marks the 80th anniversary of Rudolph Nureyev’s birth and the 25th anniversary of his death. In celebration of Nureyev’s ongoing artistic and philanthropic legacy, Dancers’ Career Development is honoured to be partnering with The Rudolph Nureyev Foundation to host what is sure be an unforgettable evening.

 

Jennifer Curry, Executive Director of Dancers’ Career Development, the only UK charity supporting dancers to transition to a new career following retirement from the stage said: ‘For professional dancers, the path to a new career is paved with physical, emotional and financial challenges. DCD has a long history of working in partnership with the Rudolph Nureyev Foundation to help dancers during this often difficult time and we are thrilled to be co-hosting this exclusive screening together at the beautiful Ham Yard Theatre to celebrate Nureyev’s milestone anniversary year and raise much needed funds to help continue our joint work supporting the next generation of dance talent.’

 

Prue Skene CBE, Trustee of The Rudolf Nureyev Foundation said: ‘Rudolph Nureyev left an extraordinary artistic legacy, but he also created a foundation which to this day is dedicated to the support of individual dancers, companies and performances as well as medical and humanitarian causes. This special film screening will be a chance to celebrate Nureyev as both artist and philanthropist.’

 

Directed by BAFTA nominated duo Jacqui and David Morris, this striking and moving documentary traces the extraordinary life of Rudolf Nureyev. Blending never-before-seen footage, an original score by award-winning composer Alex Baranowski, and a spellbinding series of exclusive modern dance tableaux directed by Russell Maliphant, Nureyev is a theatrical and cinematic experience like no other biopic.
